The GLOBE Difference

Imagine giving your child the world … not materially, but teaching him or her about other people and places, and imparting the gift of a global view. That dream is a reality at The GLOBE Academy, where students learn 50% of their academics in English and 50% in a second world language (Spanish, French, or Mandarin).

The GLOBE Academy offers three target languages for our students: Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and French. Our students are guaranteed to be instructed 50% of their time in a language other than English.

Half of my academics are in English and half are in Spanish. Because I'm in fifth grade, every other day we switch, so we learn all the math and science and verbs in Spanish class, and then we do more on it in English class. It's really nice to have an English class the next day where he can slow it down and teach it again.

GLOBE offers a number of experiential learning opportunities. So via field trips to multiple places, whether it's a play that students are going to see, or having opportunities to perform their music for an authentic audience, or cultural celebrations. Students are able to not only take what they've learned and recite it or apply it to an ABCD test. They're able to demonstrate it in some way to help them grow.

Responsive Classroom is a program that we found that was created by teachers for teachers that meets the needs of the social, emotional learning of students. One of the pieces of Responsive Classroom is every morning classrooms having a morning meeting. And with that morning meeting, you're able to share, you're able to say good morning, and you feel a sense of community. If a student feels connected and feels a sense of community, they are set up to learn far more than someone coming in not feeling a part of that school.
